The report draws on new, high-quality, household and firm level data to present the clearest evidence to date about the barriers to growth and profitability faced by women entrepreneurs. The report offers policy makers evidence based guidance on designing programs to target multiple obstacles and improve the performance of women entrepreneurs.

This note examines the effects of COVID-19 and subsequent economic and educational disruptions on adolescent well-being in Bangladesh. The analysis is based on data from 2,095 in-school adolescents aged 10¨C18 collected pre-COVID-19 (February¨CMarch 2020) through a field survey for an ongoing impact evaluation, and a follow-up virtual survey undertaken early in the pandemic (May-June 2020).

This brief highlights evidence from the Africa gender innovation lab and other promising research on mechanisms that can help protect the lives and livelihoods of women and girls - at the household level, in firms and farms, and during adolescence - in the context of the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic.

This review by the аIJʿª½± focuses on primary prevention programmes targeted at intimate partner violence (IPV) against women. It looks at programmes that aim to change the root causes of violence, such as harmful gender norms, and programmes that seek to empower individuals and communities to take action against IPV.

One in three Indonesian women have experienced Gender-Based Violence (GBV) in their lifetime. The Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic may further exacerbate the risks of GBV. First, additional stress due to health risks and economic uncertainty is likely to trigger conflict within family. Second, more time spent in the same physical space with potential perpetrators due to lockdowns may also increase the likelihood of abuse. We collected data on exposure to GBV through a phone survey to understand the factors that pose the greatest risk and policy interventions that may effectively protect women. This report seeks to focus international attention on the impediments that Africa¡¯s women farmers face in feeding their families, increasing farm incomes and lifting the heavy burden of poverty in rural areas. It uncovers new evidence that explains some of the factors responsible for the low productivity of female-managed farms in Africa. The report profiles six countries ¨C Ethiopia, Malawi, Niger, Nigeria, Tanzania and Uganda ¨C that together account for more than 40% of sub-Saharan Africa¡¯s population. It presents the clearest evidence to date about both the breadth and the depth of the gender gap in African agriculture.
