Globalization and Technological Transformation

October 18, 2018

DECRG Kuala Lumpur Seminar Series

  • Globalization has increased the pace of technological diffusion. Cross-border technological transfer has not only contributed to rising domestic productivity levels in advanced and emerging economies, but it has also facilitated a partial reshaping of the innovation landscape. Some recipient countries have become significant new sources of research and development as well as patents. At the same time, the introduction of new technologies is changing the engine of growth in many developing countries and the nature of international trade.

This presentation will review recent trends in globalization and technological transformation, assessing the changing nature of innovation in developing countries, the extent to which services is replacing manufacturing as an engine of development, and the future of production fragmentation and global value chains.
